Shri A.S. Kiran Kumar, the current Chairman of ISRO, and the recipient of the prestigious civilian honour Padma Shri joins us all at the opening ceremony of Radiance 2016, here at IIT Bombay on 12th March, 2016. This Indian space scientist has not only stood out as an excellent leader and principal contributor for the development of key scientific instruments aboard Chandrayaan-1 (India’s first Lunar probe) and Mangalyaan (Mars Orbiter Mission), but has also developed Ocean Colour instruments for PFZ forecast and has also developed the stereo imaging system for Cartosat1. Mr. Kiran Kumar’s legacy spans across his contributions to the scientific community and he is indeed the worthy receiver of almost countless number of awards and honours including not only the Padma Shri, but also the Vasvik Award and the Bhaskara Award to name a few.

Take full advantage of the opportunity and ask the ISRO chief about the upcoming and hotly talked about India’s 2nd lunar exploration mission Chandrayaan-2, existence of water on Mars, advanced community satellites, India’s 5th navigation satellite RNSS-1E powered by PSLV rocket and all the other questions that make you inquisitive. About Lecture

Speaker: Dr Amol Gokhale, Former Director, DMRL, DRDO
    Topic: Materials in Defence

It is important to build strengths within the country which allow accessing materials, at least the strategic ones, through indigenous technologies, thus reducing dependence on foreign sources when necessary. Years of efforts at various Defence Laboratories and Industries have resulted in self-reliance, to varying degrees and in various aspects. The talk, meant for the non- specialists, will present developments in the areas of armour grade alloys and ceramics, aluminium alloy extrusions, investment casting technology and necessity of having policies to secure strategic and critical materials.
